Apologies for the hiatus! Everything about Stockholm life can be so full-on, especially for an impressionable girl from New Zealand.

I thought I’d share some stuff I’ve been seeing here in the magazines. Wow. Wow. Wow.

It really feels like Stockholm is at some sort of forefront of the design world and the energy is contagious! I can’t read Swedish yet but that doesn’t stop me buying half a dozen mags a week, opening Google Translate and typing in words to get the “jist”.

I was mesmirised by this light called “Levels” and it’s by Swedish design studio Form Us With Love. The simple form combined with the properties of copper epitomises Swedish minimilism to a T – their design is uncomplicated and lets the natural material be the hero, as if they are only designing a vessel for which our natural materials can “shine” (excuse the pun)

Turns out, copper is quite the “in” thing at the moment, it was all over Stockholm’s Furniture and Light Fair and it making its way through dozens of products. The more the merrier I say!

Put down the crayons and sippy cups, it’s finally here, Sparkk’s first children’s collection!

Super cool designs for the savviest of kids, all with our unique Sparkk twist.

Hej hej!

It’s been a busy few weeks in Stockholm. Moving in to my new apartment, attempting to make friends, great but not so easy when the conversation switches to swedish – but it’s ok! I’m actually going to Swedish classes every day for four hours, it seems like a lot, but to tackle this language I am going to need all the help I can get!

As I said in my last post, spring is on the way. That’s all everyone talks about, so you can imagine the outrage! no – the disappointment, the Swedes felt this week when we were greeted by another round of snowstorms and below zero temperatures. I found it lovely! The snow was floating down on top of life in Stockholm but neither friend nor foe wanted to hear my shrieks of delight when it would come down again. I know I complain about every part of my body being cold (I never thought I could feel the back of my cheek bones or underneath of my fingernails) but the snow is just so lovely and magical. My New Zealand childhood saw pretty mild temperatures – not that hot, not that cold, so I’m like a wide eyed cheshire cat this week.

I took some photos during the fresh layer of snow, black and white is a favourite. When was the last time you saw a record store? There are two on my street.

SASKIA IN STOCKHOLM

Uzbekistan is one of those places that people don’t believe actually exists. “You just made that name up” I would often hear from my friends, but I can tell you it is bursting with culture, colour, vibrance and history. It was once the heart of the worlds most important trade route – the Silk Road.

I travelled there in 2012 and was wholly absorbed in the dazzling mosques, the amber sand fortresses and the incredible architecture all across the country. Medieval wealth was abundant too with palaces, minarets and mausoleums towering over us and delicately tiled and carved. The Uzbeks are wonderful too, so friendly and welcoming.

The moment I stepped foot in Uzbekistan I knew I was going to be enveloped by colour and pattern, I am proud to present the new collection for 2013, aptly named Uzbekistan. Enjoy!

It’s that time of year again, and if yours has been as busy as ours you will be counting down to the end of 2012!

It’s been flat out with the release of our Birds and Florals ranges, the introduction of 8 new naturals and health care  base cloths, as well as forging new relationships with our Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and South Australia agents.

The Sparkk Team would like to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who has made this year so successful.

We have had such pleasure watching all of your Sparkk Custom Coloured fabrics and wall coverings flood out the door and can’t wait to usher in 2013 with more designs, more fabric options and more possibilities!
